Swimming in London
Jan. 31st, 2012 09:49 amThe hotel where we'll be for most of this trip is a block away from the British Museum and a block the other direction away from the Central London YMCA. So, hurray!
There are a lot of bookstores within a few blocks, but they are likely not very accessible. Still, we'll see.
I will definitely go to the Foyle gallery and Brunei museum or gallery or whatever it is. And there is a roof garden that just might be accessible.
My plan is to swim gently every morning (with zond7 or without), have coffee, rest back at hotel, then if I am up to it go to a place. (bookstore, museum, whatever, and that can be by taxi) OR meet people for dinner later. I think the trick here is to keep the day to doing 2 things, where one of them is swimming. Or, only 1 thing where one of them is swimming and not feel like I have to go out and accept that I need a *ton* of down time even if it's an exciting New Place. Bad enough I'm going on the trip at all....
It might be sensible to pick 3 or 4 things I definitely want to do over a week and plan the other days as down time. Hmmm. I hope the hotel has good internet.... and a nice bathtub.... Actually it's vacation enough just to have two or three baths a day and occasional room service.
My other plan is to not even attempt to take the tube or buses but stick to lovely, lovely, very accessible taxis and blow all my money on that, which has worked very well every other time I've been in London.

Among this wealth of material are illustrated Islamic manuscripts, including a luxurious Mughal copy of the Anvar-i Suhayli, a 16th century book of animal fables; Chinese and Japanese paintings and prints; varied ceramic objects from the Middle East and East Asia; decorative Buddhist manuscripts and sculptures from South-East Asia; contemporary African paintings and textiles; and important archaeological collections from East Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.
