Oil wrestling!
Jul. 14th, 2012 11:25 pmI am newly a fan of this awesome sport, pehlivan, pelivana, or oil wrestling in which guys oil each other and then wrestle in leather pants. You win by... I think... putting your hands down the other guy's pants in a particular way. I give you the 2009 championship wrestle! First a bunch of wrestlers do a little dance like a hornpipe, ceremoniously, in their leather pants. Then around 4:30 major action begins and it is all heaving chests and crotch grabbing as the crowd cheers!
In the more amateur competitions I could see that the dance is usually more of a swagger with thigh-slapping. Anyway, this is awesome. They are amazingly strong and tricky in the various throws! I don't quite understand how you win or what is going on with the hands down the pants but I really like the sport! So much better than football!
