Injections
Sep. 26th, 2012 03:35 pmSacroiliac is definitely the right spot to be injecting pain meds into. You find out if it's the same pain as your horrible usual pain by sticking needle right into the joint. I leaped around on there I don't know what even happened. It was like Cuchuallain's salmon-leap y'all. You know when he does his feats, and all the hair on his head sticks out so that you could spike an apple on each hair, and one eyeball is sucked into his face and the other one bulges out ferociously and he gives a warrior scream?

That's about what an injection in your sacroiliac is like. Or like this...

And when it is like that it is fascinatingly indicative that yeah this is where the pain comes from. Doctor BadAss was so smug. She says her guess was right. Back patting all round. She also said she is no radiologist but their was some junk in my trunk ie the sacroiliac joints were wonky and had some sort of degenerative junkyard in there.
Oh look at my tarot card for the day, it came up TEN OF SACROILIACS.
Blrrrrrrgh.

Itshould be numb now! It's in the joint! Don't move! You will feel some PRESSURE.
(FUCK! FUCK ! FUCK! FUCK! *I grip the gurney for dear life and snivel into my hanky*)
Then things were a bit surreal. It was like my butt had gone to the dentist. I sat up. Gingerly. It is weirdly different to stand up and sit down. "Oh look she doesn't know WHAT TO THINK," said the resident, giggling. "OMG WHAT'S THIS I THINK IT"S NOT HURTING." Doctor Badass: "She's afraid to think maybe it doesn't hurt all of a sudden." Nurse: "Look at that HUGE SMILE BADGERINA! You have a huge smile on your face, hon!" Me: Ummmmm!?!!! *little beads of embarrassment radiating from my face like in manga*
The rheumatologist gave me a scrip for 4 days of prednisone, 20mg, to do next week, to see if that gives me the dramatic improvement I describe from past prednisone doses. He send me for a sacroiliac xray and blood tests. He hrmmmed about psoriasis vs. undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy.
Dr. Badass from the pain clinic thinks that a week of oral prednisone is fine, will help me get over the bronchitis anyway, but if the butt injections work well then maybe a several-times-a-year jabbing into my SI joints will keep me much more pain free for sitting up, walking, and general existence.
That all sounds kind of promising.
In 24 hours the anesthetic in the injections will wear off, and then over the next week or so the steroids in the other injections will do their stuff. So I might be in some extra pain tomrrow and Friday. It's unclear.
I took uber cab to the appointments and then felt (though BIZZARE) decent enough and the weather was nice enough that I blithely got on the bus to come home.
OK meanwhile I need a steam, a cough, and a nap. Bronchitis gonna bronch!
So glad this day is over!
