That was painful to read. That is impressive heroism.

It has been frustrating me that I haven't seen any coverage or commentary on the Sri Lankan civil war, which turned very hot just after Israel attacked Gaza, but I had missed the assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunge entirely.

I generally read little bits and pieces from Global Voices (http://globalvoicesonline.org/-/world/south-asia/sri-lanka/)... I don't know much about the situation there other than: civil war, awful for years.

I don't really know anything either, but I caught a fragment somewhere just after New Years about the Sinhalese government launching a major offensive into Tamil territory, and then a few days later a fragment about them seizing the Tamil capital, and I couldn't imagine either of those things happening without horrible loss of life, but since then I hadn't even seen fragments.
