I wrote my article! I have edits to do tomorrow morning, then swimming, then collapsing, then taxes.

This morning I just wanted to read and moan in bed. It was pouring rain. I forced myself to think about an upcoming talk, then took a cab in the rain to the bank where I was unable to take myself off me and Rook's joint account (you have to close the account completely, then re-open new ones) then wheeled several blocks up hill in the rain to NB to meet up with my fellow panelist about our talk. I liked him a lot! We'll have no trouble being interesting for an hour together, even tho the other panelists aren't going to make it! He gave me a ride to the Castro & I had some french toast in a cafe & then went (in the sun by this time) to physical therapy.

I was very thankful for my new warm jacket with hood, my scarf, my hat, my (wet) gloves, my smartwool long underwear, and my leather pants. Leather pants are THE BEST THING EVER.

Physical therapy was okay. The therapist listened to my tales of discouragement & said that my ankles are less swollen and less painful than 3 weeks ago. I'm better at doing the exercises & my legs and core abdominal muscles are stronger. She said I'm discouraged because I haven't seen a change in function, and that at some point in the slow progress there will be a jump in what I can actually do. That made sense!

I'd like to be able to walk across the room without the boots on without ridiculous pain! She said that is unlikely and I should not expect to do that until I'm not using the heel wedges any more. And then she said I probably shouldn't take out one wedge per week -- that is too fast. 8-(

I got one more exercise added. I need a half ball or a half a foam roller for it. While sitting, brace my foot (unbooted) on the ball or roller's flat side and rock gently back and forth. That uses the calf muscle while keeping it supported and partly passive. (And without weight on it.)

My other exercises are:
- short bridge (shoulders on ground, tilt pelvis, and if i can, bridge upward)
- leg lifts (one at a time) which started as leg bending with foot on the bed
- mild (passive) heel stretch while standing on a step backwards
- abductor muscle sets (knees out and back slowly) lying on back with theraband tied around my thighs
- in theory, squeeze a ball between my knees, but I don't have a ball.

I'm tracking all that now on fitocracy. If you're on there friend me 8-) So far it is very motivating. I'm level 4 and I like getting the little thumbs-up props from people.

I could not get a cab at market and 15th today! at 3:30pm! in the sun! I didn't expect that. No one would stop for me. I then called for a taxi and time passed. I read my book. Called back at 20 minutes, 30 min, 40 min. Then a man with a cup of coffee from Peet's stopped to say he noticed I was there on the corner for quite some time and did I need any help. Was I trying to get a cab? YES I WAS! I thanked him. Thank you nice man who is a teacher and goes to the Peet's at 15th and market! I should have given him my card. He said he could stay for 15 minutes trying. I said my backup plan was either ubercab or take the bus to be a lot closer to home. There were no cabs for an awkward 10 minutes. Well, one, but someone got it a block ahead of us. Then amazingly... a taxi stopped. I have asked strangers many times to hail me a cab, but never had anyone kindly notice the problem and offer to help.

Collapsed at home but was then very excited that zond7 found us an interesting possible house. At 6:30 we went to see it -- 4 blocks down a very steep hill which I conquered on my fabulous working scooter with A. on my lap! in the dark and wind and cold! The house has half a flight of stairs to the door. It has a garage! A yard! washer and dryer in the garage! two tiny bedrooms! the tub... omg it is a small but awesome looking deep tub with jets in it. Dude. DUDE. It's an earthquake shack which made me and zond7 VERY NOSTRIL FLARINGLY excited. It is walkable to A.'s school. It's one block from Mission and (relative) flatness and buses and MUNI. It's too expensive. It has wood floors and the hallways are wide enough for my manual wheelchair. The bedrooms both have closets. There is a tiny front porch where I imagine drinking my peaceful morning coffee as I watch the interesting traffic and people walk by. It would be so perfect! And though I kind of don't care about kitchen things, all the kitchen stuff is shiny and amazing. Especially after 2 years on a boat with only one working stove burner, a toaster oven, and a crock pot. A. liked the house very much. I felt certain Moomin would love it. the landlady was extremely nice. there were several new looking and grounded electrical outlets in each room, sometimes more than one per wall. The rooms are square so will fit a reasonable amount of bookshelves. the house was warm.

If we get this it will likely be tomorrow, and I would set actual moving in motion early next week.

Fingers crossed. I really want to live in this earthquake shack! If I don't get to say that I live in a houseboat any more the next best thing is certainly to say that I live in a fascinating, bizarre relic!

I walked all over this house and then sat on a window bench while people went to see the garage.

The scooter performed nobly on the uphill journey!!

I took a vicodin and iced everything. My ankles are splintery painful as a result of all the PT and walking through the house (in boots obviously, but it still hurts a lot.)

Look how cute the shack is!!! My heart will break if we don't get it! I swore I wouldn't become attached to it but ... that was LIES.
