awesome day in seattle!
Aug. 9th, 2012 11:29 pmi am in seattle for geekgirlcon! early! staying with hypatia which is extremely fun. her condo looks out over the bay where there are giant cargo ships and cruise ships swanning past. i loafed around, wrote a little bit, had coffee and went to a bookstore down the street to look at the poetry shelves. then wrote some more from a couch with my feet up at another cafe. and did some sketching of little electronics parts & then uploaded photos.
I went home through the big space needle park and watched kids playing in fountains and skaters in a skate park and cruised through the poetry corner. (!) which scarily quoted one of my favorite poems by marge piercy. guess which one!
I got a lot of email over the last 2 days from people asking about the feminist hackerspace stuff and also spent a bunch of time talking to people coming to the meetings, which has been awesome.
then we had a stitch and bitch bbq at which i heard all sorts of fascinating microserfs gossip and jargon. and stitching! and bitching! i sewed some adafruit badges onto my backpack. and my bitcoin badge. doofus alert! i really loved everyone and their knitting and spinning and weaving and hilarity and feminist right-onitude! and lulz.
i got it about the obsession with challenge coins. they are pretty, and satisfyingly heavy in the hand. they are like very high-end pog "slammers". i feel sure everyone at microserfs secretly plays pogs. Well, maybe not.
alexander and the horrible terrible no good very bad apocalypse was very good read out loud.
we had amazing marshmallows (trinker's?) over the bbq.
i am up too late. must sink into lovely Faded Sun book & go to sleep!
